Welcome to SILAP 2018

As you may know, the Super-Intense Laser-Atom Physics international workshop series was organized in 1989 by Joe Eberly and collaborators, a few years after the invention at Rochester of the CPA laser approach, for which Donna Strickland and Gérard Mourou recently shared in the Nobel Prize for Physics 2018 (along with Arthur Ashkin for optical tweezers).

The triennial series is dedicated to provide an energetic review of the most important and recent developments in the field, in a setting that is open, friendly and inclusive. In 2015 SILAP was organized by CELIA and LOA and held in Bordeaux, France. In 2012 it was organized by the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and took place in Sunzhou, China.

This year SILAP will be held in late fall in Toronto, Canada, at the The Fields Institute, on the downtown campus of the University of Toronto:

December 11 - 13, 2018,
Toronto, ON, Canada

Co-Chairs:

Final Poster 2018.11.29.pdf

  • Robin Marjoribanks, University of Toronto, Canada
  • Howard Milchberg, University of Maryland, USA

Topics covered by the workshop

  • Intense Field Atomic and Molecular Ionization
  • Short wavelength & Attosecond science
  • High Energy Density Physics
  • Ultra High Intensity Laser Systems
  • Laser-Particle Interactions
  • Relativistic Quantum Dynamics

The SILAP workshop series combines, in a small meeting format (<100 attendees), multiple exciting areas from high intensity laser science, not only laser-atom interaction. It promotes collegial, interdisciplinary discussions among highly engaged scientists from across the globe.

This webpage provides up to date information about the workshop and supports abstract submission. Workshop logistics (registration, visa information, requests for invitation letters) will be managed through the staff of the Fields Institute.
